Wood furniture and floors are beautiful, but unfortunately they can stain easily if they aren't properly taken care of. Has your wood furniture seen better days? Before you think of throwing it out, take a moment to size up the damage.
There are simple fixes that can take your wooden furniture from looking like it belongs on a curb side to a totally restored and like-new look. Keep reading as we explore different methods to restore wood like new:
Remove heat spots on wood using an iron
Did you accidentally put a hot pan on your wood table? Don't worry! There's a solution. Try using an iron and a light colored towel to remove the unsightly white mark left behind from heat damage. Simply place the towel over the spot and run the iron over it. The steam will lift the stain from the wood.
Remove heat spots with cigarette ash and lemon juice
To remove white heat marks from a polyurethane wood finish, mix cigarette ash and lemon juice. As you mix, a paste forms. Apply the paste with a steel wool over the spot.
Remove heat spots with toothpaste and baking soda
This technique works best on lacquered wood surfaces. Combine non-gel toothpaste and baking soda until a paste forms. Rub paste with cloth into wood. Use a damp cloth to wipe clean. Instantly dry. This process may need to be repeated a couple of times.
Remove water marks
If water marks are your problem, don't worry. There's a solution for you, too. Begin with fine wire wool. Buff out the water mark. Next, you should use varnish to even out the appearance of the wood. It will look good as new!
Use Vaseline to remove water marks
Spread Vaseline over watermark. Let it sit overnight. The next day, wipe the Vaseline off. Viola!
